Climate neutrality at a low price…

On the Internet, we can read that one person produces regarding 7 tons of CO₂ per year.

However, there is a clever invention: CO certificates₂. What I didn’t know is that they are also traded through the United Nations (UN) and they only cost 2 euros per ton, according to the project:

As the magazine’s survey revealed, business week “, these certificates are not only unbeatably priced, they are also partly completely useless, because they are issued for projects that would have been carried out even without certificates.

Fritz the farmer did the math for a climate-neutral cow. How does your cow become climate neutral? Or how we ensure that the cow is climate neutral!

Assumption: 100 kg of methane per cow per year.

Methane harmfulness factor compared to CO₂ : 20-28; let’s use the factor 25 for the calculation.

So: 100 kg of methane x 25 = 2,500 kg of CO₂ per cow per year = 2.5 tonnes of CO₂.

Price of the UN certificate: 2 dollars per ton.

Cost of the UN certificate: 2.5 tx 2 dollars = 5 dollars

At the current rate of the dollar once morest the euro of 0.91 euro, the climate-neutral cow with UN certificate costs 4.55 euro.

I think every farmer can really make his herd climate neutral with such a sum. And he should. As we can read above, others do it too – without any embarrassment.

But what everyone knows is that cows are not climate killers. Even if it is repeated a hundred times, it does not become a truth. And you can safely save yourself the purchase of certificates.
