Civil societies established in the provinces of Maniema and South Kivu plead for the revival of mining production in Kamituga, Luguswa and Namoya, three territories of their entities. In a written statement published on Monday, February 27, the presidents of civil society established in the branches of the Congolese companies of the Banro Group, in Kamituga, Lugushwa, Namoya and Bukavu, in the Provinces of Maniema, note that the four (4) Banro Group companies in their provinces have been inactive since 2019.
«Our investigations with the Courts and Tribunals reveal that the Banro Group has been sued since December 09, 2022 at the Commercial Court of Gombe under RFC 150 by a creditor in conversion of the preventive settlement to the Liquidation due to cessation of payment within the concordants granted to them in 2021; Our investigations show that Strategos Mining and Exploration Group has presented itself as a buyer since 2021, but it has never set foot on the Lugushwa and Kamituga Sites“, they lamented.
And to add:They have not even started any rehabilitation of the active Namoya Mine; the 4 companies of the Banro Group have brought an action in legitimate suspicion under RR 1974 since 13/12/2022. But the legal situation remains blocked at the Court of Appeal of Kinshasa-Gombe for more than 60 days».
Faced with what it describes as an imbroglio, Civil Society “cries out its impatience to see thousands of sons and daughters of Maniema and South Kivu wading through an ocean of economic and social misery when a healthy Banro Company would have allowed them to live decently“, they write.
The presidents of civil society send a message to Congolese justice for the situation to be settled.
«It is in our capacity as carriers of the grievances of the Voiceless living in the two Provinces that we urge the Congolese Justice to be diligent, by pronouncing itself as soon as possible, without hesitation, for on the one hand, that the populations of the Maniema and South Kivu know, finally, the real official buyer and that, on the other hand, the Regional, National and International creditors are disinterested, in particular the workers of Maniema and South Kivu»
These presidents of civil society in Maniema and South Kivu say they are firmly convinced of having a buyer with the proven financial and managerial capacities to relaunch the mines. The objective, they underlined, is to achieve an economic and social boom in their provinces.
