De Wever returns to Magnette’s controversial phrase… with a joke about the Walloon unemployed

When a journalist asks Bart De Wever if he knows a politically correct joke regarding the Flemings and the Walloons, the nationalist has to hold back… But not for long.

In the latest issue of the weekly Dag Allemaal, the president of the N-VA delivers a joke at the very end of the interview featuring two unemployed people, in reaction to Paul Magnette’s sentence in this same magazine (“The Walloons like enjoying life. Is that wrong?”).

“I know a lot of jokes”, explains Bart De Wever. “But none that is politically correct. The best ? After that of Magnette in this magazine, I heard another version: two long-term unemployed people meet at the Maison du Peuple in Charleroi. One of them says: “Did you receive a raise on top of the indexation?”. To which the other replies: Yes, they must be happy with us”.

A small piece that revives the machine, while the outraged reactions had rocketed following the interview with Paul Magnette, judging the words of the socialist caricatural.

The latter had defended himself, explaining that it was a joke and had even filed a complaint with the Flemish journalistic ethics council because he believed that there had been a “manifest misappropriation” of his remarks.

A “joking contest” which is likely to make people talk once more.
