A first in Wallonia: two local police zones merge

The Ministry of the Interior has defined a minimum size for the police zones to best meet the missions of a local police. With this merger, the new police zone will have 168 field police officers and 24 administrative officers for a total population of 74,000 inhabitants spread over six municipalities. 66 vehicles is the total cartage with the bringing together of the two zones. The merged budget will represent 16 million euros. The new organization will allow police officers to fully fulfill the seven basic missions required of local police: intervention in the field, of course, but also reception, traffic, presence in neighborhoods, maintenance of order , victim assistance and local research.

The new Police Council met for the first time yesterday. It is now a question of appointing a commanding officer and of ratifying the creation of this new zone which will be effective as soon as King Philippe has signed it.
