“I do both.” Such a sentence falls on your toes if you don’t follow words with actions – and that too in front of the camera. That’s what happened to Boston Celtics guard Grant Williams. 0.8 seconds before the end of the fourth quarter he was awarded two free throws. 109:109. Williams opponent Donovan Mitchell confidently announced that he would sink both throws. He didn’t meet either of them. And the game went into overtime, in which – Karma! – Cleveland finally prevailed with 118:114.

“It’s part of the game,” said Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla, “he didn’t throw them away on purpose. You have to be able to deal with that.” Mitchell, who had converted two free throws to equalize shortly before Williams announced, ended the game as the best shooter of the evening with 40 points. Williams got twelve.

Cleveland consolidated fourth in the East (41-26), Boston, who rested superstar Jayson Tatum and center Al Horford, is second (45-21) behind Milwaukee (46-18).
