Video: Russia thwarts an assassination attempt on a Ukrainian businessman

Russia’s Federal Security Service announced Monday that it had thwarted a car bomb attack planned by Ukraine to assassinate a prominent nationalist businessman and supporter of Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

Russia’s Federal Security Service said it intervened to thwart the plot, which it said involved planting a homemade, remote-controlled bomb under a car used by Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeev.

And the Russian TV channel (Zvezda) published a video clip that it said was of the Federal Security Service, showing a man approaching a parked car before slipping under it for a moment.

She later posted another clip of a robot that appeared to remove an object from under the car.

The Federal Security Service issued a statement accusing the Ukrainian security services of being behind the assassination attempt.

The statement added that the Russian far-right activist residing in Ukraine, Denis Kapustin, organized it on behalf of the security services in Ukraine.

The statement indicated that a criminal case was filed once morest Kapustin on charges of committing terrorist crimes and smuggling explosives.
