NHL: Maple Leafs lose Ryan O’Reilly for a long period

The Toronto Maple Leafs have learned very bad news as they have been forced to place the name of forward Ryan O’Reilly on the list of long-term injured players.

O’Reilly has a broken finger.

Since being acquired by the Leafs, O’Reilly has three goals and two assists in eight games. With the Blues, he had 12 goals and seven assists in 40 games.

In career, with Colorado, Buffalo, St. Louis and Toronto, he had 225 goals and 441 assists in 986 games.

Meanwhile, coach Sheldon Keefe said John Tavares won’t be in uniform tomorrow once morest New Jersey.

The Maple Leafs also recalled forwards Pontus Holmberg and Alex Steeves from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Holmberg has already played 36 games this season on the Bettman circuit, recording five goals and eight assists.

For his part, Steeves played two games in 2022-23 with the Leafs and is still looking for his first point.

The team also announced that it had traded goaltender Joseph Woll to the Marlies.
