Neymar does not play until the end of the season with PSG

Neymar will not play once more for the remainder of the season due to surgery on his injured right ankle, Paris Saint-Germain announced Monday. The Brazilian star will miss the visit to Bayern Munich on Wednesday for the round of 16 of the Champions League and will undergo surgery in the coming days at a Doha hospital, according to the Qatari-owned club.

“Neymar Jr. has had several episodes of instability in his right ankle in recent years”, pointed out the medical report released by PSG. “Following his last sprain contracted on February 20, the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation, to avoid a greater risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted confirmed this need”.

The French club added that the surgery will be carried out at the ASPETAR Hospital in Doha. The striker’s recovery is expected to take between three and four months.

Neymar, 31, suffered his most recent injury last month in a 4-3 win over Lille in the French league. He also injured his right ankle in Brazil’s debut at the World Cup in Qatar late last year, but was able to recover to reappear in the round of 16.

He had not played for PSG since he was stretchered off once morest Lille, but his absence has coincided with the team’s rebound — with Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi on the rise in recent weeks.
