Finally the end of the tunnel for your energy bills? European gas prices at their lowest for more than a year

On the main Dutch futures market TTF, the price of gas for delivery in April fell to around 42 euros per megawatt hour, down around 6.5% from Friday.

The price of gas rose sharply last year following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At its peak in August, it exceeded 300 euros per megawatt hour. At the beginning of December, European gas still cost nearly 150 euros, but its price has fallen sharply since then, in particular due to European reserves still well filled at the end of winter.

In the longer term, however, natural gas will remain more expensive than before. Until autumn 2021, the wholesale price fluctuated around 20 euros per megawatt hour before gradually rising to around 42 euros at the end of January 2022.
