The first racket of the world Novak Djokovic will not play at the Masters series tournament in Indian Wells (USA), which will be held from March 8 to 19, informs Archyde.com with reference to the organizers.
On March 4, Florida Senator Rick Scott announced that US authorities denied Djokovic a special permit to enter the country due to the lack of vaccination once morest COVID-19, which is why the Serb will not be able to compete in Indian Wells and Miami.
Serbs at the Indian Wells tournament will be replaced by Georgians Nikoloz Basilashvili.
The prize fund of the Indian Wells tournament is $8.8 million. Following it, from March 22 to April 2, another Masters series tournament will be held in the USA – in Miami with the same prize fund.
Djokovic denied entry to US
Djokovic has not played in Indian Wells and Miami since 2019.
The Serbian tennis player missed the Australian Open and the US Open last season because of his refusal to be vaccinated once morest the coronavirus, and was also unable to play at other tournaments in North America, due to which he dropped to eighth place in the ranking (in November), but by the end of January 2023 returned to the first line.
