Disturbances and strike all this week in the Liège region

Although public services are essential to our society, they are increasingly under pressure. Shortage of staff, reduced budgets and increasing workload have an impact on the quality of services rendered. This is the observation made by the public service unions in the province of Liège, which are planning a week of protest actions from March 6 to 10.

According to Gaston Merkelbach, regional secretary CSC Public Services, these actions aim to recall the importance of public services for democracy as well as their crucial role in our society: “We cannot do without public services”, he believes. . “By dint of reducing staff and cutting budgets, the quality of the service offered is falling and the health of workers is endangered”.

Actions planned include the closure of all crèches in the City of Liège all this week (disruptions are also expected at the crèche in Herstal), a strike on March 8 in the prisons of Lantin, Paifve, Huy and Marneffe, a strike of 24 hours in all public services on March 10, as well as disruptions at the post office. Administrations, stations and hospitals will also be affected by awareness-raising actions on March 7 and 9.
