“We are rebuilding communities that were previously synonymous with death” – Diario La Página

The president of the Legislative Assembly, Ernesto Castro, visited the Vista al Lago neighborhood, in the municipality of Ilopango, to enjoy an followingnoon of sports with the inhabitants of the area. At the event, he highlighted the success of the security measures implemented by the Government of President Nayib Bukele that allow the population to enjoy security and tranquility.

“We are rebuilding communities. These are places where you might not enter. From the Assembly, we continue to contribute to achieve great changes in the territories. I am glad to see children, young people and adults enjoying themselves peacefully,” said the head of the first State body.

Castro also recalled that four elements of the Armed Forces were killed in said neighborhood in 2016. “Things have already changed and they have to continue to improve. Coming here was synonymous with death,” he said.

Ilopango was recognized for having a high crime rate and was profiled as one of the most violent municipalities in San Salvador. However, the execution of the Territorial Control Plan and the emergency regime have reduced violence in this place.

The president of the Assembly remarked that previous governments did not have the courage to confront the gangs. “The decisions of President Nayib Bukele and our accompaniment are actions that they might have done in the past, but they did not want to, they did not have the will,” he pointed out.
