Richard Gere’s father dies

Alejandra Silva, wife of Richard Gere, has communicated on her social networks the death of Homer George Gere, her father-in-law and father of the renowned Hollywood actor. The businessman and insurance agent has died in New York following having turned a century old last year.

With an image of her father-in-law holding a photograph of his wife, the Spanish revealed that Homer Gere passed away on March 1 and He highlighted his “daily kindness” and his dedication as an “advocate for public schools”.

“1922-2023. Homer George Gere, a community activist in North Syracuse, died in North Salem, New York. He was 100 years old at the time of his death, on March 1, 2023.”communicated.

“A successful insurance agent until his retirement at the age of 65, Gere was known in the community as a talented entrepreneur and was awarded for his work as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels north area. As a volunteer for that non-profit organization, he appeared in national advertisements with his son. Richard Gere”, recounted the Galician regarding the life of her father-in-law.

Gere was born on May 7, 1922, in Brooklyn, Pennsylvania, a small dairy town south of Binghamton. He was the third of five children born to Albert and Hazel Snover Gere. He graduated from Brooklyn High School and senlisted in the United States Navy at the start of World War IIserving in the Pacific.

Upon his return, he graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and his first job was as an accountant with the Atlantic Refining Company in Philadelphia.

He accomplished all of this in collaboration with his wife, Doris Tiffany Gere, who hailed from the same small Pennsylvania town. They met in elementary school and were married in 1945. Doris Gere died in 2016. During their 70-year marriage, they raised five children: Susan, Richard, Joanne, David and Laura.”

Both he and his wife were closely associated with Andrews Memorial Methodist Church, where They sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Both played supporting roles in the education of the public schools in North Syracuse.

Homer, following retiring, he spent more than a quarter century as a driver and fundraiser for Meals on Wheels. Such was his commitment that at the age of over 80 she continued to deliver meals.

The Gere patriarch leaves behind five children and their partners: Susan (Jim Leone), Richard (Alejandra Gere), Joanne (Dan Doran), David (Peter Carley) and Laura (Oscar Lazaro), as well as two dozen grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
