No longer linking “childcare” in the majority to women’s labor force participation rates
Vienna/St.Pölten (OTS) – “Having children is a decision adults who want to be parents make. Responsibility for childcare should not be left to women alone
“, so Baier.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Familienbund President Mag. Bernhard Baier advocates no longer linking the topic of “child care” to the majority of women’s employment rates.
In order to make it possible for children to be cared for in a partnership, both fathers and mothers should be able to go on parental leave in equal measure. This requires a fundamental discussion regarding equal pay for equal work. Sectors that traditionally have female connotations in particular should pay better in order to close the wage gap. “It is unacceptable that young people with the same training end up being paid differently just because they have chosen different areas of focus,” emphasizes Baier.
“We must finally get to the point where parents can look following their children as partners and at the same time be able to practice their jobs. After all, childcare is a parent issue and not just a women’s issue
“, Baier concludes his request. The family association has long been committed to the interests of families and advocates a partnership in the distribution of childcare and gainful employment.
