A 32-year-old man from West Flanders fell into the Scheldt, near the Waagnatie exhibition hall in Antwerp, overnight from Friday to Saturday, dragged by a strong current. Maritime traffic was interrupted for a search operation, but this ended after some time, the man could not be found.
“The police were called around 4:45 a.m. because someone, visibly under the influence of drugs, had lost their balance and had fallen into the water,” said Wouter Bruyns of the Antwerp police.
“The intervention team was unable to recover the man who drifted, carried away by a strong current and the change of tide”, Wouter Bruyns further specified.
