Neglecting ear tumor treatment may lead to hearing loss

King Fahd Medical City has warned that neglecting treatment of a cholesteatoma may lead to gradual hearing loss, as a result of tissue erosion.

The medical city stated that the tumor, which arises in the middle ear in the form of a skin cyst, is due to the occurrence of chronic infections, and in rare cases it is congenital and not cancerous.

And it showed that its symptoms include, discharge from the ear, with an unpleasant smell, in addition to the person’s exposure to a state of vertigo (dizziness), with a gradual loss of hearing.

She indicated that the complications include damage to the delicate structures inside the ear, bloody secretions, paralysis in half of the face, ringing in the ears, and in rare cases, brain abscess and meningitis.

And she stated that treatment methods may be done by taking antibiotics and ear drops, and sometimes surgery is used.
