5 directives from the Minister of Health during his visit to the Mental Health Hospital in Abbasiya

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, confirmed during his field tour inside the Mental Health Hospital in Abbasiya today, that the mental health file is a top priority for work, whether in terms of developing medical facilities or expanding the services provided in them.

Abdel Ghaffar drew attention to the importance of the role of mental health hospitals in facing crises and natural, epidemiological or human disasters and the resulting traumas or psychological crises. He thus directed:

1- Expanding mental health services and merging them with health units and medical centers within the initiative of the President of the Republic to support the services of primary care units and centers.

2- Developing departments, raising their efficiency, and renewing the pattern of non-medical furnishings in the living rooms of detainees in those departments.

3- The speedy inclusion of patient waiting areas, playgrounds for sports activities, and entertainment venues for hospital inmates within the development plan.

4- The speedy completion of supplying the Center of Excellence for the treatment of autistic children with medical and non-medical devices, and operating it during the next month, to become the first center of excellence specialized in the treatment of children with autism.

5- The minister praised the services of children’s clinics, as he was keen to attend the treatment sessions for “autism” and “hyperactivity disorder”, which are provided by doctors and psychologists trained in programs to treat these cases.
