The Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Jean Emmanuel OUÉDRAOGO, unveiled the statue of Cheick Oumar Sissoko, this Tuesday, February 28, 2022, in Ouagadougou. This statue of the Malian director now sits on the column of the Golden Stallions, avenue Monseigneur Joanny THEVENOUD.
“This statue is a deserved tribute to a sacred monster of African cinema, director Cheick Oumar Sissoko,” said Minister Jean Emmanuel OUÉDRAOGO. Indeed, the illustrious character won the Etalon d’or de Yennenga in 1995 with his film Guimba, le tyran.
On this occasion, the Head of the Department in charge of Culture called on African youth to draw inspiration from their fight, so that other Cheick Oumar Sissoko can continue to bring African cinema to life.
The Malian filmmaker said he was honoured, overwhelmed by this achievement and expressed his thanks to the Burkinabè authorities and all of his collaborators.
