The HEC and the UNAJ will create a pancreatic cancer study center

The El Cruce Hospital (HEC) and the Arturo Jauretche National University (UNAJ) two public organizations were chosen by the prestigious Argentine researcher Dr. Juan Iovanna, to transfer his knowledge in oncological medicine since he is the creator of a “library of pancreatic tumors alive” in which they identified more than 200 tumors, a project of great advance in the field of medicine.
Dr. Juan Iovanna is deputy director of the cancer research center in Marseille, France. He is in charge of the department of translational medicine and directs the laboratory that studies cancer.

“It is a pride to be able to have the presence of Dr. Juan Iovanna at the university and at the hospital. This initiative, which begins with this first visit and tour of the HEC Translational Medicine Center, aims to transfer Dr. Iovanna’s knowledge and experience to the creation of the Center for Pancreatic Cancer Studies at the hospital”, said Dr. Arnaldo Medina, rector of the UNAJ.

It is regarding thinking regarding personalized treatments for each patient. Juan Iovanna maintains that one of the main contributions of his studies is that it studies the great heterogeneity of the disease and that, as a consequence, it will allow each patient to be treated in a personalized way: “Each type of tumor seems to have properties that characterize and, each tumor cell, indispensable dependencies for its survival, which can be studied for its treatment”, highlighted the researcher.
