March 5 the period of prohibition of election campaigning comes into force from midnight

The Central Election Commission (CEC) reminds that the ban on election campaigning comes into effect 7 hours before the start of voting on election day.

The ban on campaigning begins on March 5. 00:00 and will continue until 8:00 p.m. – the end of voting on the election day.

After the provisions of the Election Code came into force, the period of ban on campaigning during the election weekend was shortened. Now election campaigning, regardless of its methods, forms and means, is prohibited 7 hours before the start of voting on election day and until the end of voting on election day.

Exceptions apply to outdoor political posted no later than the last business day before the start of this election campaign ban within 50 meters of the building where the polling place is located.

In this case, when election campaign stands, awnings, posters, etc. are closer than 50 meters from the building where voting takes place, they must be removed.

Voters can post free of charge posts that are not considered election campaigning. It is also possible to publish on social networks that a voter is preparing to vote, invites others to vote or has already voted.

For voters during this period both on social networks and on websites administered by voters should not:

  • to publish posts campaigning for political campaign participants, naming specific candidates, the parties that nominated them, political committees;
  • share the campaign posts of other persons, comment on them and perform other actions that would arouse new interest in the candidate, party, political committee;
  • change personal account photo and profile cover to a new photo or video information with campaign elements for a specific candidate, party, political committee.

For candidates, political organizations (parties, committees, their chairmen), coalitions in social networks and websites administered by them during the election campaign ban period forbidden:

  • publish posts for a fee, including paid posts before the start of the campaign ban;

Irrespective of remuneration:

  • publish new posts of campaign content, including an invitation to vote;
  • to share new posts of a campaign nature published before the start of the ban on campaigning, comment on them and take other actions that would arouse new interest in the candidate, party, political committee (posts published before the start of the ban on election campaigning do not need to be deleted);
  • change personal account photo and profile cover to a new photo or video information with promotional elements;
  • to send reminders to persons who expressed interest in election day events created by candidates, political organizations, coalitions before the start of the ban on election campaigning;
  • mark “Domina” or “Participate” in election day events that express support for candidates, political organizations, coalitions or have other signs of election campaigning.

CEC reminds that Election campaigning is not considered:

  • information regarding ongoing elections;
  • records of the importance of elections to the life of the state;
  • announcement of the number of voters who came to vote;
  • documents required for voting;
  • other information that does not encourage not to participate in elections, to vote for or once morest a candidate or a list of candidates;
  • a non-election political campaign participant’s invitation to vote.
