Borussia Dortmund has (temporarily) taken the lead in the German Bundesliga. The black and yellow trembled in the top game under floodlights to a 2-1 (2-0) win over RB Leipzig and outperformed FC Bayern, who regained the pitch on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) with a win in Stuttgart can fight for three points in the sun.
Dortmund clearly had the action under control in their home Signal-Iduna-Park before the break and shot out a 2-0 lead through Marco Reus (21st/penalty) and Emre Can (39th). But following the change of sides, the Saxons got stronger and pushed BVB into their own half.
More than the connection hit by Emil Forsberg (74th) did not jump out. In the turbulent finish, Leipzig might have fixed the equalizer. But Timo Werner and Forsberg failed in the 95th minute. Mind you, outnumbered.
Because midfield engine Xaver Schlager hobbled off the field in the 87th minute following a rude attack by Anthony Modeste, his right ankle was affected.
The man from St. Valentin might not return to the field, Leipzig ended the match with ten men because coach Marco Rose had changed five times.
Schlager’s injury also drives Austria’s team manager Ralf Rangnick to frown. After all, the first European Championship qualifying match once morest Azerbaijan in Linz’s Raiffeisen Arena is on March 24th.
Konrad Laimer is fit, Schlager’s club colleague was not used due to a yellow card suspension.
