DUBAI, March 3rd, 2020 (WAM) — The Russian duo Andrei Rublev and Daniil Medvedev, ranked second and third, respectively, have qualified for the final of the 31st edition of the Dubai Duty Free Men’s Tennis Championship, which is scheduled for tomorrow.
Rublev, the defending champion and ranked sixth in the world, continued his start in the tournament by defeating German Alexander Zverev, the seventh seed, 6-3, 7-6 in a match that lasted an hour and 58 minutes in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Rublev maintained his hopes of defending the title, to be the first to succeed in this in 8 years, as Swiss Roger Federer was the last to win the title for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015.
Daniel Medvedev, ranked seventh in the world, stopped the career of Serbian star Novak Djokovic, the world number one, who won the Australian Open title last January, and beat him 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 34 minutes, to prevent him from continuing his search for his sixth title in Dubai. Medvedev qualified for the tournament final for the first time in his career.
This is the first time in the history of the tournament that the final match of the men’s tournament brings together players of the same nationality.
