The Frenchman was one of the favourites, along with Mbappé, to snatch the trophy from Messi. However, despite his achievements and titles won in 2022 with Real Madrid, this was not enough to climb to the top of the podium.

The ‘Cat’ published a list with his numbers and statistics achieved in 2022. In it they highlighted his 63 goals, 21 assists and the titles he won in terms of clubs and the national team. In addition, it was Ballon d’Or.

David Alaba, Benzema’s teammate at Real Madrid, did not vote for the Frenchman for The Best

After the The Best 2023 award ceremony, it was learned that David Alaba did not vote in favor of Karim Benzema as the best player in the world and chose to support Lionel Messi. The defender explained the reasons.

“As a result of the FIFA The Best Awards. In the Austria team we chose the votes for this award as a team, not just me. Anyone in the squad is empowered to vote, and that’s how we proceed. Everyone knows, and especially Karim (Benzema), how much I admire him and his performances. And I have already said on several occasions that for me he is the best striker in the world – which he still is – without a doubt,” said the captain of the Austrian team .
