That Apple is a company that has been investing heavily in resources and actions (although they are controversial…) aimed at the environment, no one can deny that.
A really cool feature was introduced a while ago with iOS 16.1. It’s the call Charging with Clean Energy (Clean Energy Charging). It is unfortunately only available in the United States for the time being, but we will talk more regarding this function in the following paragraphs. ????
What is the feature and how does it work?
Apple briefly summarizes this feature like this:
In your region, iPhone will attempt to reduce carbon emissions by selective charging when lower carbon sources of electricity are available. iPhone learns your daily charging routine to get a full charge before you need to use it.
The feature is turned on by default on iPhones running iOS 16.1 (US only, as we’ve already made clear) and works as follows: when you plug the device into a charger, the smartphone receives a forecast of the carbon emissions on your network. energy and uses that information to charge iPhone during periods when cleaner energy is produced.
In addition, this function works together with another one that is well known to Apple smartphone users: the Optimized Loading. Therefore, Clean Energy Charging is designed to only work where you spend most of your time and recharge your device (such as at home or at work), causing it to not act during a trip.
Still according to Apple, some adjustments need to be made so that Clean Energy Charging can be used. These include “Location Services”, “System Customization” and “Key Locations”. These items can be found within the System Services settings by going to Settings » Privacy and Security » Location Services.
If your iPhone is suspended from charging, a notification will be sent and will appear on the lock screen. But when you want the iPhone to charge faster, tap the warning that will appear in this situation and select “Charge Now”.
How to disable Clean Energy Charging
If for some reason you want to disable this function, just go to Settings » Battery » Battery Health and Charginguncheck “Clean Energy Charging” and choose whether you want to deactivate it only until the next day or “permanently”.
Of course, you can change this whenever you want, just go back to that same section.
While it is a little challenging to expand this to other countries, may Apple continue to launch initiatives that truly can do something for our planet. ????
