Garmin: Forerunners on an OLED diet

Garmin continues to rock its (many) ranges of OLED connected watches with the Forerunner 265 et 965 — for runners — which incorporate 1.3 and 1.4 inch slabs respectively. The latter being quite simply the manufacturer’s largest OLED screen. The 265 comes in two sizes of 42 and 46mm; as for the 965, it is of all possible and imaginable sizes as long as it is 47 mm.

Forerunner 965.

The top-of-the-range model benefits from a titanium bezel (the 265 makes do with a fiber-reinforced polymer). There is also a drop in autonomy: using GPS continuously, the 265 provides 20 hours of operation, 10 hours less than the Forerunner 255. As for the 965, it is 31 hours of autonomy with the GPS, compared to 42 hours for the previous 955.

One of the big news will resonate with Apple Watch users, since these two new models measure stride length and vertical oscillation without using an accessory! This has been the case with Apple since watchOS 9. On the other hand, the contact time on the ground requires a compatible accessory (the Apple Watch manages itself).

Apart from OLED (and this is already a great step forward), it is true that these new Garmin products will not really be imposed on all those who have the previous models on their wrist. This is especially since LTE versions are still pending, as is the integration of an ECG… Prices start at €499.99 for the Forerunner 265, and €649.99 for the Forerunner 965.
