Users of social networking sites, especially in Egypt, circulated a picture that its publishers claimed was of Abdel Halim Hafez when he was a music teacher in a secondary school for girls in the 1950s.

The picture shows Abdel Halim Hafez (1929-1977) surrounded by a number of girls who wear a uniform.

The accompanying caption read, “A rare picture of Abdel Halim Hafez when he was a music teacher at a secondary school for girls in the city of Mahalla al-Kubra, and the approximate date is 1950.”

However, the circulated image, although it is correct, was not taken during his teaching profession, as the late Egyptian singer and actor worked as a music teacher following graduating from the Conservatory of Music in the period before 1950.

The photo was published in “Al-Kawakeb Magazine” in 1961, and during that period Abdel Halim Hafez was at the height of his stardom, according to “Agence France Presse”.

The photo was published, along with other photos showing Abdel Halim receiving an invitation from the Giza Teachers’ House to participate in the celebration of the one year anniversary of the start of work on the High Dam.
