Ashwin surpasses Kapil; Third highest wicket taker for India

Indore: Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the third highest wicket taker for India in international cricket. The player took three wickets on the second day of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With this, Ashwin’s wicket tally has become 689 from 347 innings. Ashwin surpassed former player Kapil Dev who took 687 wickets in 448 innings across all formats.

Ashwin took two wickets on the second day of the third Test at Indore to break Kapil Dev’s record of 687 international wickets. Ashwin, playing in his 269th international for India, followed Kapil’s feat by dismissing Peter Handscomb in the last ball of the 71st over. Ashwin then broke Kapil’s record to reach the third position when he dismissed Alex Carey. Ashwin, who also dismissed Nathan Lyon, took a total of three wickets in Australia’s first innings.

Ashwin became the third highest wicket-taker for Team India in international cricket. Anil Kumble is the first to take 953 wickets in 499 innings. Harbhajan Singh is the second player with 707 wickets in 442 innings.
