Energy renovation: financial brakes for half of the owners

In a context of inflation and tensions on the energy market, the French are more than ever aware of the issues related to energy renovation. According to the survey entitled “The French and energy renovation: “ I would like but [en l’état] I can’t ! 55% of French people say they are concerned by energy renovation. It must be said that 49% of French people feel that over the past two years, the share of housing in their overall budget has increased, and even “increased a lot” for more than 1 in 5 French people (22%).

Heating costs are today the ones that weigh the most on their budget. 52% of those questioned believe that they have “increased a lot”, and nearly 1/3 have the feeling of living in a thermal sieve.

Owners motivated to undertake work

51% of homeowners living in thermal sieves are thus ready to take steps to eco-renovate their homes. For their part, the landlords of thermal sieves are also motivated. Thus, more than 60% also say they are willing to eco-renovate the accommodation(s) they rent, either following the departure of their tenants for 65%, or on their own initiative for 62%. Their main motivations? Reduce the energy bill for 78% of them and improve their indoor comfort for 73%.

The barriers to taking action

52% of French people who do not plan to eco-renovate their home cite the fact that the budget to be mobilized is too large for their finances. A sign of the importance of the problem of financing in the transition to the act of renovation, their own bank is today the second interlocutor towards which the French turn most spontaneously to undertake the procedures and manage the works, behind the France Renov site.

In addition to the financial obstacle, the French evoke difficulties on the way to undertake these renovations. 33% say they do not know who and how to get support, and 31% do not know how to identify serious companies and fear scams. In addition, if the people feeling concerned and ready to act are numerous according to Ipsos, state aid is considered by the vast majority to be illegible and represents a brake on taking action.

So many obstacles that might lead to a real risk of resignation among the French. According to the survey, 48% of lessor owners and 26% of resident owners of thermal sieves might indeed sell the accommodation(s) they rent within the next 12 months, for lack of being able to renovate.
