A new book regarding the experience of Yu Xingzhi, Prefect of the Holy See Congregation, was released recently, titled “A Lightning Light from the East”. The Pope wrote a preface to the book, encouraging people to listen to and learn from the courageous testimonies of Eastern church groups, and revive the church’s lively faith life.
(Vatican News Network)“The Church, in her theological and liturgical tradition, has always turned to the East and invites us to gaze there, for from the East there rises the Light, the Sun of Justice, the Shining Star, which is Christ.” Published new book “A Lightning from the East” (Like lightning comes from the East) in a sentence in the preface. The book tells the experiences, anecdotes and reflections of Cardinal Lazzaro You, Prefect of the Congregation for the Holy See.
In the preface, the Pope wrote: “The Church has always needed to be illuminated by Christ and his Gospel. …Jesus remains today a stumbling block, a sign of opposition, who challenges our security and shakes our hearts lest Our hearts are paralyzed by fear, imprisoned in hypocrisy, or hardened by sin,” said the Pope, which is why he is happy to recommend the book to people.
The Pope praised Cardinal Yu’s “accommodating attitude”: he “allows us to reap the fruits of the faith in the land of the martyrs; a faith that blossoms and bears fruit in a simple way under the joyful witness of the living Church”. From the life of Cardinal Yu, the Pope said, “all of us can see a path as a Church faithful to Christ and the Gospel, away from the world”.
At the end of the preface, the Pope thanked Cardinal Yu Xingzhi and the editors of the book. Because “we all need this light from the East. We need to hear the courageous testimonies of the many brothers and sisters who welcomed Jesus with open arms despite all their sufferings,” the Pope said. “Let us go to the East and enter the school that will revive our spirituality and the Church’s way of life”.
In conclusion, the pope wrote: “We must remember that even in times of hardship and darkness, the Lord comes like lightning. He wants to illuminate our lives.”
