Vladimir Putin launched the Year of Teacher and Mentor

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the participants of the Mentor’s School educational program via videoconference. He thanked the teachers and mentors for “unwavering faith in Russia.” According to him, teachers help their students to “distinguish meanness from truth.”

Vladimir Putin recalled that from September 1, 2023, a unified educational program in “socially significant disciplines” will be introduced in Russian schools, including history, social studies, Russian language, literature, geography. “The quality of teaching these disciplines, and at all levels of education, we will definitely improve,”— promised head of state.

“Relying on your knowledge and experience, on the traditions of domestic pedagogy and, of course, using advanced technologies, we will continue to form a sovereign education system – this is a very important thing. I just said: a sovereign education system – we are always talking regarding sovereignty in various guises. This is an extremely important, absolutely basic thing,” Vladimir Putin added.

On September 14, the State Duma adopted in the third reading the law “On Education”, which establishes uniform educational programs in all Russian schools. The law provides for universal programs for the humanities. One of the authors of the bill, Olga Kazakova, explained that in this way students are “prepared for our values.”

In addition, the Ministry of Education reported that from the new academic year, chapters on the special military operation in Ukraine will be included in history textbooks. It is also planned to include in the program chapters on referendums in the annexed regions and anti-Russian sanctions from the West.
