Reviewing the Spring productions of Vietnamese newspapers in the period 1865-2000

On March 2, the Vietnam Press Museum held a thematic exhibition “Old Spring on the New Year newspaper 1865-2000”, introducing hundreds of special Spring newspaper covers such as Nam Phong, Trung Hoa Daily, Dan Dan, and Nam Phong. Truth, People, People’s Army, Communist Magazine, Liberation Flag, Independent Vietnam, News and Le Courrier du Vietnam (of Vietnam News Agency)…

Coming to the exhibition, the public will be able to admire the colorful pages of Tet newspapers dating from the 19th-20th centuries, literary works of The Lu, Khai Hung… written specifically for the Tet newspaper.

The exhibition contributes to affirming the firm foothold of Xuan newspaper in the press life of our country over the past 100 years, distilling journalism experience from previous generations and honoring the collection of Tet newspapers that have been approved by the Press Museum. Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, shared: “Through the Spring newspapers, the style of the old Tet is clearly displayed with many points. press. Xuan Newspaper not only ‘reviews but also ‘tri Tan,’ not only summarizes the past stories, but also brings joy, interesting stories, creates a jubilant atmosphere, with different styles. unique customs and practices on Spring Day in three regions of the country, or introduce colorful culture and colorful world.”

According to journalist Le Quoc Minh, Xuan newspaper has a clear difference from daily newspapers, from the way it displays the outer appearance to the content inside. Looking at the Spring newspapers from the past to the present, in addition to the special content meticulously prepared months in advance, the investment in art also creates a strong attraction to the public and makes prominence for Xuan newspaper.

“Many years of working in the field of journalism, we and our journalism colleagues are very much looking forward to writing, participating in content design, presenting newspaper pages or organizing the publication of Tet issues. Readers from all over the country also share their joy with us, eagerly waiting for the indispensable spiritual food in the early days of Spring,” journalist Le Quoc Minh expressed.

Journalist Tran Kim Hoa, in charge of the Vietnam Press Museum, said: In the history of Vietnamese journalism, many newspapers were born on the occasion of the traditional New Year, such as “Gia Dinh newspaper” No. February 15, 1866 is on the first day of the Lunar New Year, but there is no Spring style in the newspaper. Or the “Thong types of courses” No. 10, published in February 1889, only modestly mentioned the atmosphere of Spring on page 2, through the line “Tan Xuan” in Chinese characters and “Tet handwriting”.

Some other newspapers such as Cochinchina (1898), Luc Tinh Tan Van (1908)… also mentioned Tet in the issues of the early spring, but it was not until “Nam Phong magazine” in the Tet issue of 1918 that the newspaper reported. New Year’s Eve really started the trend of releasing the annual Spring newspaper of the Vietnamese press.

Collector of old newspapers Ta Thu Phong said that “Nam Phong magazine” in 1918 was only a special paper for Tet, and if it was a Tet newspaper, it must be published regularly. From this point of view, he believes that “Women Tan Van” is the first Tet newspaper, because this newspaper was born in 1929, in 1930 it had its first issue of Tet and since then, it has been published every year since. Tet.

From here, Xuan newspaper gradually developed colorful and colorful. Through Tet newspaper, readers can see the entire contemporary social form, unique customs and habits, a colorful cultural world, or listen to people’s thoughts and aspirations in these times. Tet newspaper brings unique literary works, bold in aesthetics and attractive in both content and form. Through Tet newspaper, readers can see the talents of generations of Vietnamese journalists.

The exhibition will last until March 31, at the Vietnam Journalists Association building, Duong Dinh Nghe street, Cau Giay district, Hanoi. This is the opening event to prepare for the exhibition of the same name at the 2023 National Press Fair.
