However, the man ignored this and got in anyway, the ORF reported on Thursday. This is said to have led to a discussion with the driver, who is said to have asked the passenger to take off the mask on the bus. The Klagenfurt public utilities are now trying to clarify the facts.
In Carinthia – in contrast to Vienna, where the corresponding measures have only been lifted since March 1st – there has been no longer a mask requirement on public transport for a long time. The passenger in Klagenfurt, who actually lives in the federal capital, said he was wearing an FFP2 mask on Wednesday followingnoon because he had a previous illness and was therefore part of a vulnerable group.
“Had to prove I wasn’t infected”
According to the man concerned, he wanted to get on line 40 of the Klagenfurt public utility company, but the bus driver is said to have initially refused to ride. After getting in anyway, the driver continued to emphasize that wearing a mask was not necessary. The bus driver even asked him to remove his mask to prove he wasn’t infected, the man said.
The board of directors of Stadtwerke Klagenfurt, Erwin Smole, said in a written statement to the ORF that efforts were being made to clarify the facts. And of course passengers would be transported with and without a mask. Bus drivers are trained, but they are sharpened at regular intervals.
