Expensive food: inflation falls only slightly to 11.0 percent in February – economic policy

Inflation in Austria weakened somewhat in February and amounted to 11.0 percent according to a flash estimate by Statistics Austria. At the beginning of the year, inflation had reached 11.2 percent, the highest level since 1952. “The persistently high rate of inflation is due, among other things, to price increases for food, household energy and hospitality,” said Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas on Thursday. Compared to the previous month of January alone, consumer prices have increased by one percent.
