A man accused of having burned a native forest in Cochamó, Los Lagos region, was detained by Carabineros.

A man was arrested following being caught burning native forest in the commune of Cochamó.

The event was recorded in the Pucheguin sector of the aforementioned commune, when Carabineros del Retén Cochamó received a phone call from a neighbor, who indicated that there was an out-of-control burning.

The captain of the Carabineros and commissioner of Puerto Varas, Daniel Corvalán, indicated that the concurrence of the Fire Department was coordinated.


The area affected by this fire was one hectare, mainly plant material, with some native trees.

As instructed by the public ministry, the defendant went to the detention control hearing for fraction of the forest law.
