Chinese mobile network operators are rapidly adopting 5G technology

BARCELONA, Spain, March 1, 2023 (Xinhua) — Chinese mobile network operators have been quick to adopt 5G technology and are now reaping the benefits, Magnus Ewerbring, Chief Technology Officer for Asia Pacific at Ericsson, told Xinhua. )) Tuesday.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Ewerbring said that Chinese operators have quickly adopted the technology, applied it and benefited from it in their communities, adding that China has built 5G networks with “very good coverage.”

“For five years everything has gone well in China. The three national operators have developed very well and are now providing 5G services. We are happy to support these activities,” noted the CTO.

In January, Ericsson announced a new collaboration with China Mobile to launch two energy-saving 5G sites in east China’s Jiangsu Province and southern Guangdong Province. The move is in line with China’s pledge to become carbon-neutral before 2060.

“It’s a long way to 2060, but I think the goals are achievable, and I think the industry is now very focused on that,” Ewerbring said. “And I think mobile network operators are going to play an important role here for society as a whole. By providing connectivity, society can be more efficiency”.

“By developing your network step by step, and making sure you have up-to-date equipment there, you can significantly reduce your energy needs. This will help reduce your carbon footprint,” says Ewerbring.

He added that operators can make significant savings by having access to the latest hardware and software.

“There’s a lot of potential for people to be able to connect, for companies, to be able to do things more efficiently, and I think Asia in general and China are good examples of that,” Ewerbring said.
