Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya Election Counting Today; BJP in confidence; Left-Congress alliance in governance hopes

New Delhi: Counting of assembly elections in the states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland today. Counting of votes is going on in 60 constituencies in Tripura and 59 constituencies in two other places. Heavy security has been provided in all the three states. Polling was held in Tripura on February 16. Meghalaya and Nagaland voted on February 27. The first results will start arriving at eight o’clock

An absolute majority of 31 seats must be secured to secure the government. In Tripura, the exit polls predicted a huge victory for the BJP alliance and a heavy defeat for the CPM-Congress alliance. Exit poll results have also predicted victory for the NDPP-BJP alliance in Nagaland.

Tripura

81 percent polling was recorded in Tripura’s 60-member Legislative Assembly. 259 candidates contested. Chief Minister Manika Saha said BJP will win in Tripura and win more seats. Jitendra Choudhary, the chief ministerial candidate of the Left-Congress alliance, responded that the change of government is expected. A tribal party called Tipra Motha is also posing a serious challenge to other parties in the Thrapura elections.

Meghalaya

Meghalaya is a state where the assembly elections were fiercely contested. The Congress, BJP, Conrad Sangma’s NPP and Trinamool Congress are in the running. NPP came to power in 2018 with the support of BJP and UDP. 76 percent polling was recorded in Meghalaya.

Nagaland

In Nagaland, the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and the BJP are fighting the elections together, with the NDPP contesting 40 seats and the BJP contesting 20 seats. In Nagaland, 84 percent polling was recorded.

Exit poll results

According to India Today exit poll results, BJP will win 36-45 seats in Tripura.

Most of the exit poll results say that the NNP will continue in power in Meghalaya. Matrice exit poll says NNP will win 21 to 26 seats. National People’s Party is predicted to be the largest single party in Meghalaya. Various exit polls predict that the current opposition Trinamool Congress will win a maximum of 13 seats and the BJP a maximum of eight seats.

All four major exit polls predict a landslide victory for the NDPP-BJP alliance in Nagaland, which currently has no opposition.
