On duty from the point of view of astronomers, the “kiss” of Venus and Jupiter literally disturbed the peace and sleep of the inhabitants of Russia. The previously overlooked planetary convergence has caused quite a buzz on social media amid news of drones and strange flying objects in the skies across the globe. It can be stated that people began to look at the stars more often, but they don’t recognize those very stars and planets in the sky, expecting rather plots in the style of blockbusters “Independence Day” and “War of the Worlds”.
After the tenth message from Fontanka readers regarding two strange luminous dots in the sky, the editors began to suspect some kind of planned action. But it turned out that such flash mobs take place in all regions of Russia. The geography of alarmed messages turned out to be extensive. Almost fixed points were noticed in Yekaterinburg, Norilsk, Belgorod, Crimean cities and many other places.
“Friends, the whole evening we thought that we had two dots above the lake … What we just didn’t think … and regarding UFOs too, but everything is simple … these are Venus and Jupiter,” writes Svetlana, a resident of Petrozavodsk .
Residents of Tolyatti and Samara, who were interested in why unidentified objects are much brighter than stars and are so close, were puzzled and flooded the local public with questions. There have been speculations regarding spacecraft, NATO satellites, drones and other options.
The fact that two suspicious dots hang in the sky and do not want to go anywhere was reported by residents of Shilovo, Ryazan Region, Kotovo, Volgograd Region, Ulyanovsk and many other cities.
Residents of the Belgorod region showed vigilance at all and reported the strange to the right place. According to the local portal Go31.rufrom citizens who were frightened of Venus and Jupiter, regarding a hundred calls were received by a single duty dispatch service.
And Venus and Jupiter, who made a noise, will deceive our eyesight for two evenings in a row: March 1 and 2.
Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system, has approached Venus (one of the brightest objects in the earth’s sky) so much that the distance between them is now approximately the width of one full moon.
This celestial phenomenon is called a conjunction and is nothing more than a spectacular optical illusion. In fact, the two bright planets are at a distance of millions of kilometers from each other. At the same time, the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter can be observed at least once a year.
Separately, we add that astronomy is no longer included in the list of compulsory school subjects. The corresponding order of the Ministry of Education came into force on September 23 last year.
