This requires a certain audacity. As reported BuzzFeed News yesterday, Jennifer McBride, the woman who returned the stolen French Bulldogs to Lady Gaga following a violent kidnapping in February 2021, is suing the multi-award-winning singer for failure to pay the $500,000 reward promised for the return of the precious doggies. According to the file, Lady Gaga allegedly “defrauded” Jennifer McBride “by making a promise without the intention of performing it” and believes that she suffered moral damage and anxiety, as well as a loss of taste for life due to the reward not paid.
But there’s a catch: After the complainant turned the dogs over to the LAPD Olympic Community Police Station, it was discovered that she was connected to the group that organized the kidnapping. She was indeed one of five people arrested following the incident and had been sentenced to two years probation.

And the case does not stop at the kidnapping of pets. Ryan Fischer, Lady Gaga’s dog walker, was shot four times in the chest during the robbery. He survived his injuries and Jennifer McBride was also arrested for complicity in attempted murder. (She pleaded no contest to the charge of receiving stolen goods.)
TMZ later said LA County Assistant District Attorney Michelle Hanisee believed the complainant was “more than aware that the dogs were stolen when she returned them in hopes of getting the reward, and that she had known the men involved in the shooting for years.”
James Howard Jackson, the man who pulled the trigger, was sentenced to 21 years in prison last December. During sentencing, Ryan Fischer said he suffered multiple collapsed lungs, lost job opportunities and friendships, but forgave his attacker. In an earlier interview with CBSRyan Fischer claimed that Lady Gaga had helped him “tremendously” during his recovery, and that he had even “stayed at her house for several months, being able to receive from his friends the necessary comfort and security”.
