Wavre: the City says no to the Matexi project in the Bois de Beumont

It is a refusal which will relieve a lot of people on the side of Wavre. The real estate group Matexi wanted to develop a road, in the Bois de Beumont, intended to serve part of the new district of Champ Saint-Anne which is emerging from the ground. But this project threatened the beech forest of the wood. L’Avenir announces this morning that the City refuses to issue the permit!

A victory for citizens mobilized en masse once morest the project

“It’s a huge relief for me but also for all the people who supported us and whom I thank, testifies Sophie Visart, the initiator of the petition. Thank you to these 1500 people who signed the petition and also to the inhabitants who mobilized to get signatures and to meet people. It was important to preserve this site because it is, in a way, the emblem of the city of Wavre and it is one of the rare places which is preserved from concrete. It has a path that is quite bucolic and rural. It’s a bit like the Wavre of yesteryear and many people are historically and emotionally attached to this place and that’s why I thought it was important to preserve it”.
