Fort Chabrol in Waret-L’Evêque: the perpetrator killed is Loïc, 27; the wounded policeman is out of danger

The young man killed by the police this Tuesday at the end of a fort Chabrol, rue Guilitte in Waret-L’Evêque, is Loïc, 27 years old. He lived with his sister and his parents in this house which they have occupied for many years. The family is well known in the village, particularly for its involvement in local festivities. In the neighborhood, it’s shock, astonishment, surprise… “We knew that the dad was not well and we thought that it was he who was concerned by the drama. But Loïc, we did not imagine, explain several neighbors. They are popular in the neighborhood. It’s a real tragedy…”

Loïc was in the process of launching his construction company and was busy building his house near Haillot (Ohey), in the province of Namur. In the meantime, he lived with his parents. “He was a good guy, a nice guy, who helped whenever he might, indicates a relative, but he was going through a rough patch, it’s true. He needed help and what happened to him is tragic. He didn’t deserve this.”

The policeman out of danger

As for the police officer injured in the throat and face by the author of Fort Chabrol, he is out of the woods, confirm the president of the Hesbaye-Ouest police zone, Pol Guillaume, and the mayor of Héron, Éric Hautphenne. A psychological cell should be set up for this agent but also for the team which intervened on the spot, as indicated by Jean-Marie Dradin, head of the body of the Huy police zone, neighboring zone. “These are relatively rare events in our areas but which always generate strong emotions. There is therefore systematic psychological support for the police officers involved and the colleagues who feel the need. Generally, it is organized internally but it can there will also be federal support as needed.”

The Liège public prosecutor’s office has put the file under investigation and should, logically, designate another police zone to follow the file. “When there are facts like this with injured police officers, the investigation is entrusted to other colleagues, explains the head of the hutois corps. It might be Huy or Waremme for example because the prosecution generally favors geographical proximity. But I think that if we were to take over the file, we would already be informed.”

The Liège public prosecutor’s office refuses to communicate for the moment. Several experts were once more this morning on the scene of the tragedy to carry out the duties of investigation. According to our colleagues from RTL, the Committee P, an external police control body, has been seized.
