In his 2003 speech, on his first presidential visit to the province of Río Negro, Néstor Kirchner announced the expansion of Route 22. There would be five sections of regarding 20 kilometers each. But the reality is that 20 years have passed and the photo shows the ordeal suffered by those of us who crossed the side street of Bridge 83 between wells, speed bumps and drums, in a tedious and dangerous caravan of trucks and cars.

I wonder -like many others who circulate on Route 22-: Why aren’t there operators and machines working on that section? Why did they leave this main route unfinished, without lighting or signage? How is it possible that they take so long to solve the structure of Bridge 83? How long are we going to have to wait to transit in a normal way?

“From word to word, there is a long way to go”, goes the saying, referring to not trusting promises that cannot be kept. Even less, when they come from the mouth of a politician with a long record of corruption in road works, where negligence and lack of transparency participate.

But I also wonder: What was done with all the money they collected from the toll on Route 22? Shouldn’t heavy-duty trucks contribute to their maintenance?

If the mayors had a strategic plan with a regional vision, they should carry out -together with Vialidad Rionegrina- secondary works on Route 65 on both sides of the railway branch, in the sections that join the cities of Cipolletti, Fernández Oro and Allen, to improve the productive infrastructure of the Alto Valle and its regional economies, in addition to helping to relieve congestion on National Route 22.
