HBO Max will increase price in Brazil to R$34.90 per month [atualizado]

After Netflix, Amazon Prime and even Apple TV+, now it’s time for HBO Max to navigate the tide of rising prices in the Brazil.

Several streaming platform subscribers received an email warning that the subscription price will change from the day March 30th. The multi-screen plan will cost R$34,90 monthly, instead of R$27.90.

When the service was launched, the company offered a 50% discount subscribers, claiming to be lifetime. Despite this, in the email she stated that the price would change, leaving subscribers confused as to whether they would pay the full amount or not.

On the HBO Max support Twitter account, however, the company stated that the discount would remain. Thus, from R$13.95, subscribers with a 50% discount will be able to pay R$17,45/month if the information actually proceeds.

The news of the price increase was surprising, as the company had stated that this would not happen in Latin America – even though it took place in the United States in January.

HBO Max, it is worth remembering, is the fourth largest video streaming service in Brazil, according to JustWatch, and has in its catalog great titles such as “Game of Thrones”, “Sex and the City”, “Succession”, “Euphoria”, “The Last of Us”in addition to broadcasting Champions League matches.

Starting March 30, the monthly subscription fee for HBO Max will increase in Brazil for both new and existing subscribers. This adjustment will allow us to invest even more in a variety of high quality content and new productions for our audience. For those who subscribed with a 50% discount, as long as the subscription is maintained, the conditions remain the same, and the discount will be applied to the current value. This is the first time that HBO Max has increased its price for the monthly plan in Brazil since its launch in June 2021.

As for the email sent to subscribers without the discount, an error seems to have occurred since many — including Edu — received an email with the correct amount (discount applied), as shown in the screenshot below:
