Cate Blanchett was asked to stop working following filming ‘Tár’ because it was ‘all-consuming’.
The 53-year-old actress has previously said she was so exhausted from her role as Lydia Tár, an obsessive conductor, that she considered quitting acting. She has just revealed that director Todd Field, 59, warned her that she needed to take a break straight following filming.
Cate, tipped to win Best Actress at this year’s Oscars following winning the BAFTA award for her role as Lydia, told AnOther Magazine: “After I finished, Todd put his hand on my shoulder and said, “You shouldn’t be working for a while.
“Something had happened to both of us in the process of making it. If you’re lucky, it only happens once, maybe twice in your lifetime…but that was the dating process and it was all-consuming.”
Cate added that her mother told her regarding Lydia’s character following watching the film: “Well, people aren’t going to like her.”
Her take on the film came following Cate urged her to watch it with an “open mind”.
Earlier this month, Cate said she was constantly thinking regarding quitting acting because she was “in love and in love with it”.
She said in the February issue of Vanity Fair magazine: “It’s not occasional – it’s continual.
“It’s a love story, isn’t it? So you fall and fall out of love, and you have to be seduced once more.”
Cate also told the publication that she had turned down several roles since finishing “Tár” because she felt it was time to be “quiet” due to the demands of the role.
