In a press release available on their official sitethe Danish studio tells us regarding the new RPG on which Io Interactive is looking:
“It’s been a decade since we first envisioned creating a new ‘World of Assassination’ for our HITMAN games. Seven years ago, we launched this world in its infancy and nurtured it to grow to include three full games, exciting new game modes, plenty of additional locations, and additional targets. And more importantly, it allowed us to bond with our community who have been supporting us ever since. We have gone from a strong vision, through many unforeseen events, to the ever-expanding world with the freedom of approach at its core that we have today.
Now we share with you all, that we are embarking on a new adventure! One that expands our creativity, our abilities and, in a certain sense, our identity. We are building a new world, a new IP – an online fantasy RPG. A world and game built from the core to entertain players and grow for many years to come. It sounds familiar, but at the same time, IOI is embarking on a journey unlike anything we’ve done before.
For many, this is also a deeply personal journey that started long before we started making games for a living – and it started with the fantasy genre. “Fighting Fantasy” books that force you to choose your path, alone, once morest wizards, lizards and robber kings. To the conviviality, the camaraderie, the agony and the pleasure found around the table. For some, that meant playing the role of a game master: part storyteller, part AI opponent, part guide, part villain. For everyone around this table, it meant creativity, imagination, building a world together, and a common goal to create an exceptional gaming experience.
This idea – that a diverse group of individuals with different skills and strengths can work together and become more than the sum of their parts – is what inspires us. It inspires the fantasy world we build – and it inspires the way we build it. IOI now spans several separate studios, from Copenhagen and Malmö in the north to Barcelona in the south. All studios are involved in the creation of all of our games, including this new venture. People from all over the world with diverse personalities and skills come together to forge a new beginning.
This is just the beginning of our journey into this new world we are creating. We hope you feel the warmth, the danger, the friendliness and the heart we put into it… And if you do, we would be honored if you would join us. »
