Edmundson: “still four or five clubs interested”

The announcement of the trade sending defenseman Mattias Ekholm to the Oilers threw cold water on many Canadiens fans, who hoped to see the Alberta team turn to Montreal and Joel Edmundson to improve their defense.

“We can forget Edmundson in Edmonton. There is no doubt regarding it”, launched Tony Marinaro, Tuesday evening, during the emission “JiC”.

“The Oilers wanted to add a big size defenseman for the playoffs. And they made the right call, considering Ekholm is a better fullback than Edmundson.”

Jean-Charles Lajoie, however, went there, barely a few seconds later, with an interesting statement concerning number 44 of the CH.

“I am told regarding four or five teams interested in his services. Edmonton was the lot and ranked among the most active clubs in the file. But there are still other fish in the pond.”

To get their hands on Ekholm (32, 18 points in 52 games), the Oilers traded defenseman Tyson Barrie, forward Reid Schaefer and first- and fourth-round picks to the Predators.

Joel Edmundson, 29, has six points in 39 games this season.
