What to expect from Season 2 of House of the Dragon?

The first season of House of the Dragon was an absolute success on HBO, breaking audience records both on the cable channel and on HBO Max. With excellent reception from critics and the public, the production that took us back to Westeros managed to maintain the level of the first seasons of Game of Thrones, proving that the universe created by George RR Martin is really a sea of possibilities and epic stories.

Despite the first season having a slightly troubled pace, with many time jumps and even the cast change due to the advance in time, the production managed to captivate the public very quickly, delivering a great list of outstanding characters. With the second season already confirmed by HBO, many fans wonder what will happen in the second year of production.

House of the Dragon Season 2 is set to deliver a lot more blood and violence now that the Dance of the Dragons has finally begun. While the first year served to introduce the public to several characters, including Rhaenyra and Alicent, the great enemies of dance, the second year now has the free way to dive once and for all in this bloody period of Westeros, full of deaths and twists.

With the end of the first season being extremely impactful, with the death of Lucerys, son of Rhaenyra Targaryen, fans are waiting for a violent response. In this scenario, the second will bring the adaptation of “Blood and Cheese”, a chapter that promises to be as remarkable as the Red Wedding on the small screen.

More characters and more places

If the first season of House of The Dragon was a little more contained compared to Game of Thrones, featuring a smaller core, the second year of production will expand the number of characters in the plot. With the Dance of Dragons dividing Westeros into two sides, the war between Rhaenyra and Alicent will make loyalists willing to face the battlefields for both sides of the confrontation.

In this way, the series will also explore more places in Westeros, as confirmed by the showrunner of the production, while the plot introduces new faces to the public. While King’s Landing, Driftmark and Dragonstone will continue to be important, other Westeros locations will also be shown as more houses and characters emerge with alliances being formed.

The presence of the Starks

In Season 2 of House of the Dragon, fans will finally get to see one of the franchise’s most beloved families gain traction on the show. After Jacaerys was sent to Winterfell on a diplomatic mission at the end of the first season, the second year of production will see the Targaryen boy meet Cregan Stark, the Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North. To the delight of Stark fans, the character should have a lot of importance in the coming war if the Fire and Blood book is faithfully followed. Cregan Stark will be one of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s great allies in the Dance of the Dragons, with the Starks showing all their strength in Westeros.

With the first season already featuring many dragons, the second year of the HBO series should show even more scenes with the great creatures, introducing even more beasts to the public. The second season, in addition to featuring the creatures already shown, should show new dragons like Sheepstealer, Stormcloud, Morning and even more, including the Cannibal, one of the most savage dragons to ever live in Westeros.
