Street robberies — especially in large capitals — are already part of the daily lives of most Brazilians, unfortunately. There is even a “veiled rule” that you cannot go out on the street with an expensive device on display, otherwise you run the great risk of returning home without it.
Regrettably, this nefarious practice that has been practiced for many years in Brazil has reached the United States. More precisely, several cases of robberies have taken place in the city of New Yorkwhere owners of AirPods Max have become victims.
As informed to Spectrum News NY1at least 21 cases of Apple headphone thefts have been reported since January 28th. All of them took place in Manhattan, including one inside the famous Central Park.
In most cases, the thefts took place in the middle of the followingnoon, when the thieves simply removed the AirPods Max from the victim’s head while she was wearing them and fled at high speed.
The miscreants circulated on two motorcycles, each with two people. A video released by police shows one of the thieves getting off a motorcycle holding two pairs of AirPods Max and entering Washington Square Park. So far, there have been no arrests.
In Brazil, AirPods Max cost R$6.590; In the USA, US$550 — that is, quite an investment to acquire the premium headphones. Therefore, it is always prudent to be very careful when using them on the streets – and it seems that this warning also applies to those in foreign lands.
We just hope this “fashion” doesn’t catch on there too…
