Shopping sales above inflation last December

Total sales at current prices in December 2022 in the country’s malls surveyed by INDEC reached a total of 114,716.2 million pesos, which represents an increase of 113.7% compared to the same month of the previous year.

At constant December 2016 prices, in December 2022, sales reached a total of 8,807.7 million pesos, which represents an increase of 2.2% compared to the same month of the previous year.

With these figures, sales in shopping malls were 15 points above inflation, also partly due to the effect of inflation on prices.

The Pampean Region, where Córdoba is included, reached a total of sales at current prices of 25,071.7 million pesos, which implies an increase of 111.5% compared to December 2021 and with it stands 2.2 points below the national average.

The items with the greatest increase in demand in the month of the holidays were “Electronics, household appliances and computers”, 153.5%; “Food court, food and kiosks”, 137.1%; “Perfumery and pharmacy”, 113.3%; and “Furnishings, decoration and textiles for the home”, 113.1%.

The total number of stores that are active with sales volume available for the entire country reaches 4,788.

Of these, the City of Buenos Aires has 1,105 stores, the 24 districts of Greater Buenos Aires 1,145, and the Pampean Region 1,364. They are followed by the Cuyo Region with 491, the North Region with 433 and, finally, the Patagonia Region with 250 assets.

Regarding sales in supermarkets, in December 2022, a 2.0% drop was registered compared to the same month of 2021. The accumulated January-December presented an increase of 1.6% compared to the same period of 2021.

Total sales at current prices, surveyed in the Supermarket Survey, totaled 359,733.1 million pesos, which represents an increase of 95.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In Córdoba, total supermarket sales last December totaled 32,419 million pesos, with an increase of 100.8% compared to the same cycle last year. They represent 9% of the country’s total sales.
