Kaprizov named first NHL star of the day following unique achievement

Russian striker “Minnesota Wild” Kirill Kaprizov recognized as the first star of the past game day in the National Hockey League (NHL), informs league press office.

The Minnesota defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 in overtime in the National Hockey League’s (NHL) regular season home game.

Kaprizov became the fifth player in league history to score a “natural hat-trick” (three goals scored in a row during the match) with a goal in overtime. Previously, Czech Tomas Gertl (January 8, 2022), Austrian Tomas Vanek (February 20, 2008), Czech Patrick Eliash (November 9, 2001) and American Neil Broten (November 26, 1983) succeeded in this.

He is also the third player in Minnesota history to score his third goal in an overtime game. For Kaprizov, this hat-trick was the second in his North American career. In total, six players have scored more than one hat-trick in the history of the club. And only the Slovak Marian Gaborik and the American Zach Parise have more.
