GS.VS. Tran Dai Nghia’s birth name is Pham Quang Le, born on September 13, 1913 in a poor family of teachers in Chanh Hiep commune (now Hoa Hiep commune), Tam Binh district, Vinh Long province. is an outstanding scientist, known as the father of Vietnam’s defense industry. After two resistance wars to save the country, his name became a legend for many generations of Vietnamese people as well as international friends.
During his life of dedication to science, Professor Tran Dai Nghia has always been especially trusted by President Ho Chi Minh and the Party, assigned many important positions. In the army, he held the following positions: Director of Military Department, Director of Artillery Department, Deputy Director of General Department of Logistics, Deputy Director of General Department of Technology. When he switched to the civil sector, he held the following positions: Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister of Heavy Industry, Chairman of the State Committee for Basic Construction, Chairman of the State Committee of Science and Technology, Director of the Institute of Science and Technology. University of Vietnam, the first Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
And especially, with rare talent and virtue, the Party and State have continued to assign Prof. VS Tran Dai Nghia an important task, which is to create and develop a common house gathering intellectuals, Vietnamese scientists.
The first congress of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations on March 26, 1983 elected Prof. VS Tran Dai Nghia as President. He became the first President of the Vietnam Union of Associations, an organization with the role of gathering, promoting the creativity and dedication of a team of Vietnamese S&T scientists and intellectuals, contributing to the development of science. , building the country.
From the early days of hardship, the Vietnam Union of Associations only had 15 members, regardless of difficulties and hardships, Prof. VS Tran Dai Nghia has devoted all his heart and energy to building and developing the organization step by step. The organization is growing stronger and stronger, making a significant contribution to the political, social, scientific and economic development of Vietnam.
Prof. VS Tran Dai Nghia was honored by scientists and member associations as Honorary President for the second and third terms and that title also followed him to the end of his life (1988-1997).
